Guided Independent Study

This unstructured open studio class is designed for artists who are already working independently and want the energy, accountability, and support of a shared creative environment. Bring your ongoing painting projects from home and continue developing them in a relaxed, studio-style setting.
Rather than following a set lesson plan, students will receive individualized guidance and one-on-one instruction tailored to their specific goals, challenges, and artistic voice. Whether you’re refining technique, resolving a composition, or pushing a series forward, the instructor will meet you where you are and help you grow.
Each session will also include optional group critiques, offering valuable feedback, fresh perspectives, and the opportunity to engage in thoughtful dialogue with fellow artists.
Ideal for intermediate to advanced students—or motivated beginners ready to work independently—this class fosters a supportive, inspiring environment where creativity can thrive without rigid structure.
Daily Painting: Small Works, Alla Prima (Direct Oil Painting Method)

6 classes - $270 at 14 Cedar Street Studios in Amesbury. $50 deposit to register (applied to total class fee.)
This six-week oil painting class focuses on creating small paintings quickly and directly from observation. Working at an intimate scale encourages experimentation, reduces pressure, and helps artists develop stronger decision-making, confident brushwork, and a more intuitive relationship with paint.
Each class centers on completing one small painting per session. Through short demonstrations and individualized guidance, students will learn how to simplify what they see, capture essential color and value relationships, and work efficiently without overworking the surface.
Perfect for painters who want to loosen up, stay motivated and improve their skills with a regular painting practice.
